Oh also, I love the trapper keeper look of the boon itself, so cute!. If the art stays lackluster I may not go much farther with the series, but I did enjoy this collection at least. But anyway, like I said, it's not a big plot point, and that's for the best. But just explaining jem wouldn't be explaining synergy. The only reason given is that bad people could use synergy for bad reasons. It'd be easy enough to explain jem as a persona, like ziggy stardust or Marilyn manson. They don't seem to know what to do with the whole jerrica/jem split, it's used for very occasional shenanigans/conflict, but as a reader it all seems so pointless. It was mostly just cute girl drama stuff. I loved the coloring, and I especially liked the design of Pizzazz. Amy mebberson and Jen bartel did great on the special issues. The next regular artist was not very good. Sophie Campbells art is beautiful and unique, I've always loved it.

This is definitely a keeper and I am interested in seeing if any more volumes exist.more I understand that they could have modernized why they were keeping Synergy a secret or explained Jem better but they stuck with the classic storyline and I'm not mad. I was so happy that they kept the basics from the source material, that the dad left Synergy to the girls and that they created Jem as a way for Jerrica to perform. The story continued in the same vein but that art was terrible.

All of these characters are completely different but they didn't standout visually and the last half of the novel just felt lazy in terms of art. I just couldn't get on board with the constant changing 'art' and struggling to realize who everyone was. WTH? The art was different from then on out and that's when my rating dropped. Art was different but wasn't part of the main story, so it got a pass. It felt like a retelling of the old series with modern additions (internet, Twitter, etc). Victoria Robado did amazing with her colors and I liked Kelly Thompson and SC's story. It was that way for the Holograms and the Misfits.ДЇirst six issues, I was in love. Each character still felt like her 80s counterpart but brought up to date. Different sizes and races, all blended wonderfully, new with old. I liked the updated look of all of the girls. Just as the cartoon was all those years ago. But $5 is a basic price that I can't say no to and I came home with a bag of stuff, Jem sitting on top. So when I spotted this at a used bookstore on clearance I wanted it but I was TERRIFIED because 'WHAT IF THE COMICS WERE AS BAD AS THAT SHIT MOVIE?!?!' and I didn't know if my heart could take it. I swear, the Misfits were why I was such a goth girl on middle/high school. I was obsessed as a kid, owning Jem 'Barbies' and such. As a 30 something year old woman, I own the entire animated series on DVD and actually watched it after I bought it. So when I spotted this at a used bookstore on clearance I wanted it but I was TERRIFIED because 'WHAT IF THE COMICS WERE AS BA This came so close to getting a 5 star rating from me.
